The portfolios included in this collection are of two types: Landscapes and “Street Photography.”
The “Street Photographs” reflect the changing and seemingly chaotic nature of the street environment. They are done with a small camera, in a random sort of way, and then are carefully selected. It is the improvisational quality of the process that I enjoy so much and that connects me to what is taking place.
The Landscapes are quite different. They are done with a large camera that requires careful planning of each shot. I love hiking in the wilderness where space, sound, texture, color, and movement fill ones senses. These photographs are taken in places where I feel a profound sense of beauty that is much larger than what my senses alone can tell me. They are intended as a gateway - a place where one can stop, look around, and gain some perspective into the true nature of things.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California where I have been teaching photography for fifteen years. Currently I teach at Leigh High School in San Jose. My photos are for sale at various venues in the Bay Area.
I was born in New York City and studied Architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. It was at Pratt that I first became interested in Photography.
